I like to help my website visitors with awareness and also help those charities and organisations connected to the topics I feel are important.
Early 2023 I was extremely lucky to a) be aware of the signs of Sepsis and b) get the right care at a local hospital. However, please don’t under estimate even with instant treatment how serious this is and just how long it can take to fully recover emotionally as well as physically. My own awareness I lay tribute to Kim Smith a Sepsis survivor who has been an amazing ambassador for what can be a life threatening and/or life changing illness. For me, it was a very scary experience which could have been far worse had I not watched Kim’s awareness videos.
March 2025 change.org have a petition asking W.H.O. to classify post sepsis syndrome as a condition so that sepsis survivors can receive the help they need. I am hoping this comes to successful fruition as survivors endure serious effects long after discharge from hospital.
I promised Kim that I would add a page to my own website and promote both Sepsis Research FEAT and the UK Sepsis Trust.
A few facts which Kim regularly posts via her media campaigns:-
1 in 5 Deaths worldwide are associated with Sepsis.
In the UK 5 people are killed every day by Sepsis.
Any type of infection, bacterial, viral, or fungal can lead to Sepsis.
Sepsis is indiscriminate and can kill a previously healthy person in a matter of hours.
Symptoms to be aware of:-
Very high or low temperature, Uncontrolled shivering, confusion, not passing as much urine as normal, cold or blotchy arms or legs.
In today’s NHS situation my own advice and experience is not to wait for an ambulance if the wait is advised as long. Please get somebody to drive you to hospital A and E and ensure either you, if able, or, the person whom takes you clearly lets staff at A and E immediately know that Sepsis is suspected. Sooner one is treated the better it is vital to get the right drugs and treatment to prevent this taking hold of your body.
Stay alert, stay healthy…remember knowledge is power and knowing the signs you may just save a friend or family member.
